End of Q1 2026 urbanest Canary Wharf construction update

Following our end of 2025 update, Construction of urbanest Canary Wharf continues to progress at pace, with the scheme now rapidly nearing completion.

As of the end of Q1 2026, all bedroom and kitchen units have been completed across all floors, a significant milestone as we prepare to welcome UCL students in September.

Externally, both the façade and roof works are complete, with attention now turning to the surrounding environment. Hard and soft landscaping works have commenced in recent weeks, further shaping the public realm. Internally this incredible scheme continues to take shape at speed, with the remaining activity focused on final decorating and carpeting to the last few floors, alongside the snagging of final student bedrooms, which is now underway.

The building’s communal amenity space, located on the 10th‑floor skybridge, is progressing well through fit‑out, with final decorative works expected to be completed by the end of May. Elsewhere, the commissioning of Mechanical and Electrical services is well advanced and is nearing completion as we progress into Q2.

At ground level, the finishes to the reception desk and reception area, which will welcome students and visitors upon entry to the building, are beginning to be installed. Building Control inspections have been happening twice a week for a number of weeks and will continue to take place readily as we move closer to completion.

With the major structural and external works now complete, and internal works progressing at pace, our focus is firmly on final finishes and quality assurance as we prepare to hand over this landmark development to our operational colleagues ahead of student arrival later this year.

The construction of this scheme has been a truly collaborative effort among all involved from start to finish, and we look forward to celebrating practical completion in the near future.

Upon completion, urbanest Canary Wharf will be among the world’s largest Passivhaus purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) schemes, and the UK’s largest PBSA scheme.

With 1,672 student beds, and a further 80 residential units, urbanest Canary Wharf will set a new benchmark for sustainable student accommodation in London and we can’t wait to welcome UCL students through its doors in September.
